Kongo: The Highest Mountain in Kansai

Since autumn has set in, the temperatures are nice and cool, it is time to start hiking again! And so we did, this time our goal was to summit Kansai’s highest mountain, mount Kongo!KongoGetting there was a matter of stairs…  lots and lots of stairs. KongoEndless amounts of stairs…tokyo2016-2No it wasn’t that bad actually, it only took about 1,5 hours to get to the top and the scenery was very beautiful!tokyo2016-8Autumn colors everywhere!tokyo2016-6And every once in a while a little shrine tokyo2016-3tokyo2016-4The top of the mountain offers a great view of Osaka and a lot of temples and shrines.tokyo2016-9 tokyo2016-12 tokyo2016-13 tokyo2016-14 tokyo2016-15There is a huge billboard on top of the mountain with names of people who climbed the mountain at least 200 times!! And if I read this correctly, the absolute number 1 has climbed it over 10.000 times…. Is that even possible??tokyo2016-11I’m not sure if you have to actually climb the mountain to get their names on this billboard, or that they just took the….tokyo2016-16The ropeway!! :-p Now we DID climb the mountain on foot, but since I had a sprained ankle we decided to take the cablecar back.
