From Hong Kong we made a daytrip to neighboring Macau! You can easily take a ferry to this citystate, it only takes 50 minutes and has some beautiful views along the way. We didn’t know what to expect from Macau, knowing it mostly from its casino’s, but it turned out to be an amazing city with tons of Portuguese influences! But definitely also a lot of gold haha:

But underneath the gold of the Grand Lisboa there are tons of cosy streets, cafes and remnants of Portuguese influences like churches and pastel de nata’s!

One landmark are the ruins of St. Pauls, a 17th century church of which only the facade remains:

Tucked in the small streets are tons of interesting scenes.

With the Grand Lisboa always looming over the city!

We walked through the city to the 15ht century temple of A-Ma, a beautiful place built up a rocky hill. It is said Macau has its name from this temple.

A very nice contrast to the casino area of the city!
