We made a trip to Hong Kong and fell in love with this megacity! In the next three posts I’ll show the many facets of this magnificent city, starting with “The Walled City”. The original Walled City was demolished in the early nineties but that doesn’t mean there are tons of places in Hong Kong that remind of it.
Starting with the “monster building”! This residential block has such a nice composition of apartments that it became a somewhat famous photospot.

The entire neighborhood is an inspiring place full of massive apartment buildings connected with walkways, with markets underneath. A vertical megacity!

We visited the original ground where the Walled City once stood. Nowadays it is a beautiful park, showcasing some of the original buildings of the Walled City as well as an exhibition of recreated shops and streets of the Walled City.

Nowadays, if you want to see something that comes the closest to what the Walled City was like, you should visit the Chungking Mansions (and the neighboring mansions as well). This block of apartments has markets on the lower floors, and is a maze of hallways, stairwells and aircons.

But in the entire neighborhood of Mong Kok you get the Walled City vibes. There is so much going on that it is almost overwhelming!

Even from our hotel we had views over districts like this, it felt like we were in Ghost in the Shell!
